History & Why
It's Special

Race Point gets its name from the powerful ocean currents — or "races" — that occur where Cape Cod Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. These strong currents historically made the waters around Provincetown challenging for sailors navigating the coastline. The surrounding area is now protected as part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, preserving its dramatic dune systems and wildlife habitat. Visitors often see seals, shorebirds, and other marine life along the shoreline.

Race Point remains one of the most untouched and scenic coastal environments on Cape Cod, offering a glimpse of the Cape's wild natural beauty. Please follow National Seashore guidelines and respect protected dune areas.

⚠️ Notice: Please check restaurant hours and reservations during peak season.
